The Board of the Felix Leemann Foundation in Lugano, based on the provisions of the will and the Rules of Procedure for the awarding of scholarships and academic prizes, opens the competition for the FELIX LEEMANN FOUNDATION AWARD.
The topic chosen for the 2020-24 edition of the Prize is HISTORY, ARCHAEOLOGY, AND ART HISTORY.
Doctoral theses on the subject of history, including archaeology and art history, discussed in the academic years 2019-20, 2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23, and 2023-24, in the period from January 2020 to June 30, 2024, and approved by the respective universities, in the form of already published work and typed work ready for printing, in each case already registered, are eligible.
The Felix Leemann Foundation Prize is reserved for Italian-speaking Ticino and Graubünden residents, even if they are not domiciled in their respective cantons of origin, or for persons who have been continuously residing in Canton Ticino or Graubünden for at least 5 years
The Prize amounts to CHF 5,000; exceptionally, the Prize may be divided among several winners.
A special jury, of 7 members, consisting of:
- Simona Boscani, Professor of Modern History at the University of Lausanne;
- Lucas Burkart, Professor of Medieval and Renaissance History at the University of Basel;
- Rossana Cardani Vergani, Head of the Cantonal Archaeological Service;
- Luigi Lorenzetti, Professor of the "Culture of the Territory" area at the Academy of Architecture (USI) in Mendrisio;
- Nicola Soldini, former Professor of History of Architecture and History of Art at USI and SUPSI;
- Sacha Zala, Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Bern and Director of Dodis,
- Adv. Andrea Pozzi, President of the Felix Leemann Foundation.
will evaluate the entries in the competition and will determine, in all final judgment, the winner of the Prize.
Participation in the competition requires delivery, by June 30, 2024, in 7 hard copies and one digital copy, of the doctoral dissertation. Contestants should produce the most recent degree and any judgments on the thesis.

 

Those interested in the competition should announce themselves to the Felix Leemann Foundation Prize Secretariat, c/o Lawyer Andrea Pozzi, Via G.B.Pioda 12, 6900 Lugano; the competition announcement and entry form can be downloaded from the website www.fondazionefelixleemann.ch.
The decision of the Board of Trustees will be announced in the autumn of 2024; the award will be presented by the end of December 2024.
