The Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences are launching the 2024 National Prize for Open Research Data (ORD). This is part of the Action Plan "Open Research Data" implemented by the Academies as part of the National Strategy for ORD.
The project aims to celebrate research projects of individual researchers and research teams for innovative methods in the field of ORD and to promote the transition to open research practices.

Thematic Focus Areas 2024

I. Collaborative and/or interdisciplinary reuse of data 

  • This focus area is broadly defined and will be evaluated with respect to practices and types of data used in the respective field(s) of the research project
  • It includes research projects that reused data or facilitated the reuse of data with an important collaborative or interdisciplinary exchange

II. Educational and/or outreach efforts related to the reuse of data

  • This focus area targets projects that reuse data and that are associated with specific efforts dedicated to education, training, and/or outreach activities related to data reuse, aimed at empowering researchers and students in effectively finding, accessing, using and interpreting research data


  • Before applying, please read carefully the Regulations and the Official Call
  • The project must be part of scientific work executed at a Swiss research institution
  • Researchers from all career levels and scientific disciplines can apply
  • A formatted CV must be submitted as well
  • Applications can be submitted via the online form


The total prize money shall amount to CHF 21,000 and be divided into three or more prizes by a decision of the jury.

The maximum amount for a prize is CHF 10,000. The jury reserves the right to award further projects as so-called “honoured projects”.
