ERC Grants

Research and Transfer Service

24 May 2018

European Research Council (ERC) grants aim to support and boost frontier research in Europe. They are open to any discipline from any scientific field, with no pre-defined topics, nor thematic priorities. Scientific excellence is the sole criterion: support is provided either to promising or to already established excellent researchers of any nationality with an outstanding track-record. Projects must be innovative, high-risk/high-gain, curiosity-driven.

Types of ERC Grants:

  • Starting Grants: researchers with 2-7 years of experience after PhD. Indicative deadline: October 2018
  • Consolidator Grants: researchers with 7-12 years of experience after PhD. Indicative deadline: February 2019
  • Advanced Grants: established researchers who have a recent research track-record which identifies them as leaders in their respective research field. Deadline: 30 August 2018.

Duration: up to 5 years

Budget: up to €1.5 million for Starting Grants, up to €2 million for Consolidator Grants and up to €2.5 million for Advanced Grants.

  • Proof of Concept Grants: only for ERC grant holders. PoCs finance activities aimed to verify the innovation potential of ideas arising from ERC projects. Deadline: 11 September 2018.

Duration: 18 months, budget: 150’000 €.
