In order to help current students and recent graduates to find their way in the working world, many of our alumni shared their career story. Here the story of Andrea Romano, Executive Director and Responsible Officer, Biz B Finance Group (USI Degree: 4 years degree 2004).
How did you start your career?
After working for IRE at USI, I moved to the banking industry in Lugano. In 2010 I relocated to China where I started my consulting firm. The following year I moved to Hong Kong to set-up a family office. I sold the business in 2015, so I decided to join Biz B as Responsible Officer and Executive Director.
What is your current role and duties?
My duty as Responsible Officer is to supervise the company regulated activities and interact with the financial regulator of Hong Kong, the SFC. Nowadays I spend most of my time between Hong Kong, Beijing and Philippines, where I have invested in farm land.
In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career at Biz B Finance Group Corp Limited?
My position requires experience and good track record in the asset management business. To be able to deal with regulatory authorities is very important.
What are USI’s positive features and qualities?
USI is a small university that allows the student to interact easily with professors and university staffs. Students can use this connections to increase their knowledge.
What competences and/or skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?
Problem solving skills are crucial in careers and life. Together with the willingness to understand things.
What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?
Get as more experience as possible in different environments. Once you feel your current job/company cannot give you more in terms of knowledge/building up skills, move on.
