The courses aim to provide students with cross-disciplinary skills that can be useful in various fields, ranging from digital transformation to academic integrity and cybersecurity, as well as other key topics for university and professional life.

  • Digicamp

    The Digicamp offers students a unique opportunity to stand in front of a class and experience what it is like to be a teacher. Anyone with skills in the field of digitalization who would like to put them to use for the student community is welcome to participate.

    In order to teach at Digicamp, you must first attend an introductory teaching seminar offered in collaboration with eLab. The seminar prepares Digicamp student teachers to plan their training modules correctly, providing basic teaching tools and methodologies to increase confidence and improve the classroom learning experience.

    Following this introductory seminar, student teachers will benefit from one-to-one coaching to prepare their course with our lab's teaching staff and experts.

    • Audience: Bachelor's and master's students enrolled as student teachers at Digicamp
    • Format: Mandatory in-person seminar, followed by individualized coaching (upon request)

  • Academic Integrity

    Academic Integrity is an online course created by eLab and available on the iCorsi platform in Italian and English.

    The aim is to raise awareness among USI students on the issue of academic integrity, presenting the main forms of academic misconduct and offering some suggestions on how to avoid them.

    The course is organized into modules where students can find definitions, examples, advice, and useful resources.

    • Audience: Bachelor's and Master's students
    • Format: asynchronous online course
    • Access to the “Academic integrity” courses offered by USI faculties
  • Excel Course (Beginner)

    This course, organized and managed by eLab, is a hands-on Excel course that will help you acquire practical skills useful for your professional career. The course was designed with a limited amount of theoretical notions, and will have a focus on practical “real life” exercices. 

    The course will cover the following macro topics, and will be tailored in accordance with the level of participants: 

    • Familiarization with the Excel interface (various tabs, grid mode, ...)
    • Inserting and maintaining data within one or more worksheets, formatting rows/columns, tips & tricks on formatting, joining cells, use of filters, search function, data format, search and replace function, sorting, concept of data quality in Excel.
    • Data analysis: opening unconventional formats (csv, macro enabled workbook), familiarizing with the concept of formulas in Excel, main formulas, merging datasets with common variables, best practices for using formulas (coding convention), risks in formulas (data quality extension), conditional formatting, variables and nomenclature, table formatting, manipulating text variables & data extraction, Pivot table, introduction to Power Query. 
    • Data presentation: KPIs, charts in excel, pivot charts, choice of colors, choice of graphs, formatting, printouts. 
    • Depending on the level of participants, macros in excel and macro recording could be addressed at the end of the course.

  • Excel Course (Intermediate/Advanced)

    This course, organized and managed by eLab, is a hands-on Excel course that will help you acquire practical skills useful for your professional career. The course was designed with a limited amount of theoretical notions, and will have a focus on practical “real life” exercices. 

    The course will cover the following macro topics, and will be tailored in accordance with the level of participants: 

    • Review of basic Excel concepts, best practices for using formulas (coding convention), use of variables, table editing, Pivot table, Pivot Charts, best practice for presenting data.
    • Data modelling in Excel: introduction to Power Query Editor, connection to different data sources (e.g. databases and online sources), #M language for data modeling, process automation using Power Query (threats and opportunities), introduction to Entity-relationship model, usage of Data Model feature.
    • Advanced Pivot table: introduction to Power Pivot feature, creation of custom calculated fields in Pivot Table using Data Analysis Expression formulas (DAX) in a data model context.
    • Introduction to macros, macros recording and usage of VBA in Excel .
    • Excel Cloud, new features, scripting and integration with Power Automate for scheduled processes.
    • Depending on the level of participants, specific topics could be addressed at the end of the course.   

     

    Public: students with a basic level of Excel knowledge.

  • Online information

    The Online Information course was created by eLab as part of the Swissuniversities P8 program. The main objective of this course is to raise awareness of the various aspects of online information, such as searching for information, evaluating its quality, and understanding the risks associated with it.

    The course covers the following topics:

    • Information in the digital age
    • Searching for information online
    • Evaluating information online
    • Online security and ethical issues

  • Security Awareness

    IT awareness or security awareness is essential for protecting the personal data and information of individuals and organizations. USI runs awareness campaigns and offers regular training opportunities on IT security.

    To test your skills and learn more about IT security, an online training course is available via the SoSafe platform. The course is structured in thematic modules with theoretical concepts and interactive exercises.

    • Audience: entire USI community
    • Format: asynchronous online course, with certificate upon completion

  • Digital Media Lab

    The Digital Media Lab (DML) aims to be the hub for all practical teaching initiatives designed to prepare USI students for the digital transformation of companies operating in the communications sector, and for communication practices and processes.

    The DML offers practical courses on software relevant to digital content production or the improvement of other digital skills.

    DML is a project promoted by Prof. Lorenzo Cantoni (Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society) and funded under the Swissuniversities P-8 program “Renforcement des digital skills dans l’enseignement.”

    • Audience: Master's students, no prerequisites
