On Sunday, July 28, USI will be the featured at the Fête des Vignerons in Vevey, the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage festival that every new generation (the previous edition was held 20 years ago) celebrates the transfer of knowledge through time, promotes excellence in vine growing, and fosters innovation in the social context of the community. It is one of the great popular events of the Swiss tradition.

USI will be present with a conference held by Prof. Lorenzo Cantoni, head of the UNESCO chair in ICT to develop and promote sustainable tourism in World Heritage Sites. The meeting, which will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the "Maison Ticino" organized by "Sapori Ticino", will be an opportunity to explore the concept of intangible cultural heritage, retrace the history and value for the future, and discuss about the role of digital technologies for its preservation and communication. It will also offer the opportunity to present the reasons for the first bid of this kind from Ticino, which aims at including the Processions of the Holy Week in Mendrisio in the list of traditions safeguarded by UNESCO.

The UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage aims at protecting legacies that is are found in time, in community practices and in social interactions. This heritage encompasses living traditions such as oral expression, the performing arts, social practices, rituals and festivals, knowledge of nature and the universe, and craftsmanship. In this way it illustrates human creativity and bears witness to the different cultural expressions existing in the world.

The “Maison Ticino”, a project devised by "Sapori Ticino" to promote the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland from a touristic and cultural perspective, will also host an exhibition dedicated to the Compagnia Finzi Pasca, whose founder is the director of the show that will be performed from 18 July to 11 August in the large arena built in Vevey for the event.
