In order to help current students and recent graduates to find their way in the working world, many of our alumni shared their career story. Here the story of Alessandro Bernardi, Profit Protection Analyst in PVH Europe BV in Amsterdam (NL). USI Degrees: Master in Tecnologie per la comunicazione, 2009 and Bachelor in Communication Sciences, 2006.

How did you start your career?

After a first experience in a communication agency in Ticino, I started my career in the newly created Loss Prevention Department of Guess Europe,
in the Lugano HQ. After that I continued my career in Guess Europe's French office in Paris.

Why did you choose a career at PVH Europe BV?

After almost 6 years in Retail Fashion, I accepted the challenge offered me by PVH of testing and widen my competences in a bigger Retail entity. In addition, this allowed me to discover a brand new living context by relocating from Paris to Amsterdam.

What is your current role/duties?

Responsible for Data Mining, controls and investigations (both in-store and backend) for Europe (520 stores + 660 concessions in 21 countries as per April 2019).

In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career at PVH Europe BV?

Being ready to go the extra mile, being innovative, out-of-the-box thinking.

What are USI’s positive featuresand qualities?

Offer a mix of competences that allow students a wider range of choice for specialization, both academically and professionally.

What competences and/or skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?

Being able to "read" what is necessary within different projects, and select the most appropriate tools (and their implementation) in order to reach your goal.

What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?

Reach for innovation, defend your ideas, never sell out.
