Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships
Each year the Swiss Confederation awards Government Excellence Scholarships to promote international exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and over 180 other countries. Recipients are selected by the awarding body, the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS).
The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships are aimed at young researchers from abroad who have completed a master’s degree or PhD and at foreign artists holding a bachelor’s degree.

Admission:
The awarding of Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships by the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS) foresees a scholarship start date of 1 September.
Young researchers who have already been in Switzerland for more than one year at the planned start date of the scholarship will not be eligible for this award.
A professor who hosts an FCS scholarship holder at a USI institute may decide to top up the ESKAS scholarship with a part-time job appointment, funded by the institute's funding resources.For PhD:
- Advance clarification by the doctoral studies coordinators as to whether the potential candidate can be admitted undertaking a doctorate at USI, and the prospective admissions requirements.
- Financing the doctorate USI: A professor who hosts an FCS scholarship holder at a USI institute may decide to top up the scholarship with a part-time job appointment, funded by the institute's doctoral funding resources.
