Buddy programme

The buddy programme organized by the International Relations and Study Abroad Service and ESN Lugano aims to support incoming exchange students at USI and facilitate their integration into USI's community by connecting them with a local student.

USI students are invited to volunteer as buddies and commit to assisting international students during their exchange.

What is a buddy?

A buddy is, first and foremost, a friend. As a buddy, your role is to make life a little easier for exchange students, helping them settle into campus life and feel welcome from day one.

Why become a buddy?

Participating in the buddy programme offers you the chance to have an international experience, meet people from all over the world, improve your language skills, explore new cultures, and create new friendships. In addition to helping others, it is a great way to enrich your CV!

How does it work?

You can register as a buddy via the online form. You will be paired with one or more incoming exchange students a few weeks before their arrival in Lugano and wil be put in touch with them through ESN Lugano. You will also receive a short buddy guide, which will provide you with more information about your role. You and your assigned student(s) can then decide how you wish to proceed, whether it is meeting up for coffee, texting, going for a walk…

At the end of the semester, you will be asked to fill in a short feedback survey and you will receive a buddy certificate.
