Each year the Swiss Confederation awards Government Excellence Scholarships to promote international exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and over 180 other countries. Recipients are selected by the awarding body, the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students (FCS).

The Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships are aimed at young researchers from abroad who have completed a master’s degree or PhD and at foreign artists holding a bachelor’s degree.

Along with the academic supervisor and the delegates for each university as well as for the two Federal Institutes of Technology (EPF Lausanne, ETH Zurich), a Reception Service is available for Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship Holders. The Reception Service provides assistance and counsel, for example by helping the scholarship receivers adapt in the new environment, find an accommodation and get in contact with other students, other scholarship holders, as well as the local population. It also organizes sightseeing trips and other extra-curricular events.

The Reception Services of the Swiss HEI meet once a year with the aim of sharing ideas, best practices, problems and concerns. This year the meeting took place at USI on November 9. After the fruitful morning work session the group was offered a visit of the exhibition “Magritte. La ligne de vie” at the LAC museum.
