International Relations and Study abroad Service

11 February 2019

On November 22, the newly founded Commission for International Relations met for the first time. This new governance body operates as your point of contact for internationalization matters within your faculty. The “ecumenical” approach of the Commission will take into consideration existing projects within each faculty as well as new ideas being developed, putting them into a broader USI perspective.

We have asked the three commissioners to release a statement on how their role will facilitate the mapping and the development of international activities and how they can be of support within the faculties.

Prof. Laura Pozzi, Faculty of Informatics

“One of my aims is to help and support students who are interested in tasting the experience of spending a semester abroad --- an enriching experience that I strongly suggest to all our Informatics students. The Commission will help in this, and also in creating and strengthening ties with prestigious foreign Institutions, exploiting and formalizing the several relations already existing in our Informatics Faculty.”

Prof. Riccardo Blumer, Academy of Architecture

"The approach of the Academy of Architecture that I have inherited has always been very much oriented towards internationality, and it is still a strong feature of our school. In my role within the International Relations Commission, I will once again support and share this vision among my colleagues, and give my contribution to the activities aimed at its success."

Prof. Matthew Hibberd, Faculty of Communication Sciences

“My role would be to help coordinate exchange activities among institutes in the Faculty of Communication Sciences and to increase awareness among all colleagues in fostering stable and sustainable international cooperation and development opportunities.”

Prof. Paul Schneider, Faculty of Economics

“I am a proud and grateful member of the international academic community, having done research and teaching at many different universities across Austria, Switzerland, the UK, and the US. Exposure to different faculties, students, and ideas has greatly benefited me both professionally and personally. The current offering of international opportunities at USI is already very generous. I am keen to help through the organization of summer schools and exchanges to widen it in both directions, for outgoing and incoming students, even more.”

We would like to remind all academics that in case you would like to highlight or discuss specific academic initiatives related to internationalization, you could do so by getting in touch with the commissioner of your faculty.

The second meeting is scheduled on March 11.
