Voting on Student Initiatives and Referendums in the Corporation

In addition to the elections to appoint the members of the Student Council and the Extended Council, all Bachelor's and Master's students regularly enrolled at USI have the right to cast their vote for Student Initiatives and Student Referendums. When the student body expresses itself through vote, it constitutes the Student General Assembly.

How to vote

To vote on Student Initiatives or Student Referendums:

  • go to the Student Corporation space on iCorsi (NetID login required);
  • then go to the "Vote on Student Initiatives and Student Referendums" section
  • and follow the instruction you find there.

If the vote on Student Initiatives or Student Referendums is open, you will find the items subject to voting and be able to cast your vote:

  • Student Initiatives
When voting on a Student Initiative, voters express themselves by accepting (YES) or rejecting (NO) the Initiative.
  • Student Referendums
When voting on a Student Referendum, voters express themselves by accepting (YES) or rejecting (NO) the matter disputed by the Referendum.

The vote is anonymous.

When is the vote?

  • Student Initiatives
Voting on any Student Initiatives depends on when they were launched.
  • Student Referendums
Since the Student Referendums are linked to the decisions of the Student Council, the dates of potential voting on potential Student Referendums are already included in the Corporation calendar.

As soon as a vote is actually scheduled the entire student body is notified by the Chancellery of the Corporation. Scheduled votes and open votes are also reported in the Corporation calendar and on this page (see below).

Who can vote

All members of the Corporation, i.e. all Bachelor's or Master's students who, on the days of voting, are listed in the USI database as regularly enrolled at the University.

If you are a Bachelor’s or Master’s student at USI and you believe you are entitled to participate in a vote, but the platform does not allow you to vote, please contact [email protected].

Results of the vote

  • Student Initiatives
While voting on a Student Initiative, the majority of votes counts. If the majority of votes in favour of the Student Initiative is not reached the Initiative is rejected.
  • Student Referendums
While voting on a Student Referendum, the majority of votes counts. If the majority of votes in support of the Student Referendum is not reached, the decision disputed by the Referendum is accepted.

The result of the vote is published by the Chancellery in the Student Corporation news and notified to the entire student body.
