Support for the University initiative "USI Welcome 2020"

The Student Council, at its meeting of 7 April 2020, has decided – in the name of the Corporation itself – the "USI Welcome 2020" initiative of the University. The initiative consists in organising, in September, a series of welcoming activities for the new USI students, held over two days before the start of the courses and with recreational and social moments open to the whole USI community. In particular, the Corporation will sponsor the initiative with students and student associations through its contacts and communication channels to gather ideas and applications, it will coordinate a presentation dedicated to all student associations, and it will grant an amount of up to CHF 1000 to the associations that will present the best proposal for the social moment, according to the opinion of the Student Council and the Organising Committee of the event. The Council supports the initiative as it is in line with the fundamental objectives of the Corporation.

Details of the Decision
Among the main objectives of the Corporation are to encourage the cohesion among students, to reinforce the relations between the student body and the University, and to provide a positive and enhanced student experience outside the classroom. A two-day welcome event dedicated to new students at the University and organised with the involvement of student associations will encourage them to feel part of the entire USI student body from the very beginning and to be welcomed into a university that is attentive to the well-being of students. The support provided to the associations is in the form of a "project call": interested associations are invited to submit their proposals to the Student Council, by the terms that will be indicated to the associations that announce themselves (by e-mail to: [email protected]). The Council, together with the Organising Committee, will choose the proposal judged best, on the basis of the following criteria: the proposal provides for collaboration between several student associations; the proposal is in line with the objectives and spirit of welcoming new students.

The Decision was taken by the Student Council unanimously.

The deadline to launch a Student Referendum against this Decision is April 23, 2020.
