The body changes over time, accumulating visible and invisible traces of change and often becoming the focus of care practices. In particular, women's bodies, as well as bodies considered "non-conforming," are still subject to cultural and social norms that define their aesthetic, behavioural, and political boundaries. Precisely for this reason, they open up spaces for reflection and invite us to inhabit and question change, generating new meanings and awareness.

On International Women's Day, the Equal Opportunities Service and the Institute of Italian Studies at USI are hosting a public encounter dedicated to the body as a space of transformation, care, and resistance, where change, norms, and the production of meaning intertwine in female and non-conforming bodies.

Speakers will include Gloria Origgi, Italian philosopher at the CNRS in Paris, who will reflect on transformative experiences; Gloria Dagnino, researcher at the University of Udine, who will analyse the theme of aging and gender from a cinematic perspective; and Alessandra Sarchi, writer and author of numerous novels, who will question the otherness of the place we inhabit in relation to our bodies.

This will be followed by a discussion with the speakers, in collaboration with professors Federica Frediani and Sara Sermini and the student association Il Letterificio. An aperitif will be served at the end of the event.

The meeting will be held on Tuesday, 10 March 2026, at 6:00 pm, in Room A11 at USI in Lugano.

The event is open to the public and accessible to people with reduced mobility.

In preparation for the evening, three critical reading workshops, open to the public and curated by Federica Frediani and Sara Sermini, will be held on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, 18 February, 5:00–7:00 pm, Room A34, Palazzo Rosso
  • Tuesday, 24 February, 5:00–7:00 pm, Room A34, Palazzo Rosso
