Swiss LGBTIQ+ Panel: every experience counts
Equal Opportunities Service
4 May 2026
The seventh edition of the Swiss LGBTIQ+ Panel is currently underway; it is the largest ongoing survey of the situation of LGBTIQ+ people – lesbians, gay men, bisexuals, trans people, intersex people and queer people – in Switzerland. Launched in 2019 and led by Dr Léïla Eisner and Prof. Tabea Hässler of the Department of Psychology at the University of Zurich, this research tracks thousands of people from all cantons over time to understand how their integration into Swiss society is changing, including in response to significant events such as the extension of anti-discrimination legislation or the legalisation of same-sex marriage.
Over 6,000 people took part in the 2025 edition. The findings are published in annual reports and made available to researchers, practitioners, non-profit organisations and policymakers.
The focus for 2026
This year, the survey focuses on health, the experiences of younger and older LGBTIQ+ people, and social engagement. Everyone is invited to take part, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or sex characteristics. The data collected provides a solid scientific basis to support research, professional practice and work towards equality. For universities in particular, it can guide initiatives on inclusion, equality and diversity. The Equal Opportunities Service would like to inform students and all staff of the opportunity to take part: every contribution helps to raise awareness of LGBTIQ+ experiences in higher education and to bring about real change.
The survey is available in Italian, German, French and English.
