WC All gender
In accordance with the Strategic Plan 2025-2028 and the objectives of the Action Plan for Equal Opportunities, Inclusion, and Diversity at USI 2025-2028, USI has been introducing WC All gender across all its campuses since March 2026.
Designed to make the campuses more accessible, inclusive and welcoming for the entire university community, the WC All gender facilities extend the services already available on campus. They allow the university to respond to diverse needs and situations, ensuring safety, comfort and accessibility for everyone who frequents USI campuses and eliminating any form of stigmatisation or discrimination related to the use of toilets.
WC All gender are open to all members of the community and offer solutions that respect different gender identities, the needs of people with disabilities, families and anyone who may feel excluded from traditional facilities. They do not replace or eliminate existing toilets, but broaden the options available for situations that require privacy, comfort, and barrier-free accessibility. Men's, women's, and accessible toilets will remain available on all campuses.
For the East Campus, the project was carried out in conjunction with the SUPSI Gender and Diversity Service and aligns with the actions taken by most Swiss universities (UNINE, UNIL, UNIFR, UZH, EPFL, ETH, UNIBAS).
The introduction of WC All gender, promoting barrier-free access, improves the wellbeing and usability of spaces for all members of the community, with specific attention to the diverse needs of each individual. This initiative enhances the accessibility and inclusiveness of the USI campuses, confirming the Institution's commitment to an environment that is inclusive, ethical and respectful of all its members.
The majority of the WC All gender facilities on USI campuses are also accessible to people with disabilities, for whom toilets reserved for exclusive use also remain available. Information can be found at the following link.
