D-0324-10 - Support to the Student association OSA for their spring semester 2024 activities

Student Corporation

Decision No D-0324-10

At its sitting on 12 March the Student Council decided to support various initiatives proposed by the Student Organization Academy (OSA), the "cloak" association of students of the Academy of Architecture at USI, with a total amount of CHF 4500 for the Spring semester. The funds will be allocated to continue a series of projects that have been ongoing for several years.

OSA Camera Obscura
Camera Obscura is an analogue photographic lab specializing in developing and printing processes created by students and based at the Academy of Architecture. The lab is open to all USI students interested in analogue photography, ranging from film development to photographic paper printing. The lab aims to share with the most significant number of students from all USI faculties activities and foster synergies between students and professionals through workshops, conferences, and photo exhibitions. The budget allocated will support the costs of developing and printing products and materials for organizing an exhibition.

Concreto
The project involves the purchase of materials for the maintenance of the plaster room and a workshop. The aim is to have a more efficient and organized plaster room, as a space increasingly used by students, whom we wish to involve more through a workshop. The workshop will allow the creation of a small object and is also an occasion to better understand how to deal with specific materials.

CineOSA
CineOSA organizes conferences and screenings with professionals from the film and audiovisual industry. The activities are followed by a debate, allowing students to exchange opinions or discuss with the guests. Starting this semester, there will be a collaboration with the AAM Design studios, as video making is increasingly used as a means of expression and project presentation. Thanks to Kevin Lee's course and the participation of Ila Beka, the project wishes to promote the creation of an open archive of works produced by students in this discipline.

ExpOSA
ExpOSA is presented in the form of an exhibition event, in which students from the academic community exhibit the product of their passions, not necessarily strictly related to architecture studies. The exhibitions will be related to themes such as photography, painting, sculpture, and the design and construction of furniture.

OSA Lectures
Selected lecturers are invited to share their work and research with USI students, among them contemporary architects or academics from other institutes and areas. The lectures will contribute to students' academic and future professional paths, offering them a broader perspective in an urbanistic, environmental, cultural, and political debate. The encounters are open to all USI faculties. The credit supports guests' food and transport expenses and post-conference aperitif.
Guests: Zhu Pei, Ehrl Bielicky, Armature Globale, Pezo Von Helrichausen, 2050+,  3 more dates to be confirmed.

riOSA
riOSA is a project that focuses on issues concerning the eco-sustainability of materials and their reuse. The goal is to raise awareness among students about the issues of waste, sustainability, and reuse of materials through the design and implementation of real projects.
This year, in collaboration with "Studio Abuse", (a studio based in Milan specializing in the processing and production of wooden interiors), the association wishes to organize a two-day workshop open to the entire student community. The project foresees a didactic part followed by the design and creation of a project to be implemented in the public spaces of the USI community. The credit aims at supporting the costs of the materials processing tools.

rumorOSA
rumorOSA is an initiative started by a group of students from the Students Organization (OSA) which aims to create a place for those who cultivate an interest in music. Specifically, the student association wants to offer to the student community the opportunity to have a place for musical rehearsal and bring any interested parties closer to the knowledge of a musical instrument. The funding requested will be used to cover the cost of purchasing cables, microphones, and amplifiers.

ViaggiOSA
Through the active collaboration of students and professors, ViaggiOSA wishes to offer culturally themed study trips, in particular guided visits to architecturally relevant buildings and museum exhibitions.

VoceA OSA
VoceAosa is the Academy of Architecture students' paper magazine and aims to give voice to students' lives and activities. The budget allocated will support the printing, binding and publication costs and the organization of a Workshop.
Each copy will be sold at a discounted price for students of 10 CHF. The production of a single magazine costs 15 CHF. The requested budget would serve to reimburse 33% of the total production cost, including printing, covers, organization of the presentation event, and various expenses.

Decision procedure
The Student Council considers that the projects are partially consistent with the project evaluation guidelines set by the corporation. For this reason, the project is funded with 4500 CHF against the 7095.24 CHF requested by the student association.  The importance of seeking external funding and sponsors outside the Student corporation is emphasized.
The Decision was taken by the Student Council unanimously. The credit will be made available in the form defined in concert with the University when the actual expenses associated with the project are needed.
