Equal Opportunities Service
Date: 15 May 2025 / 12:30 - 17:30
Blue room Executive center Campus Ovest Lugano
Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 12:30 to 17:30, eLab and the Equal Opportunities Service invite all USI teachers and external interested public to attend the event “Universal Design for Learning in Today’s University: Inclusivity, Flexibility, Effectiveness”, a training and discussion opportunity focused on Universal Design for Learning (UDL) — a pedagogical approach aimed at promoting more inclusive, flexible, and effective teaching.
The day will be structured in two distinct but complementary parts:
12:30 – 14.00 | Seminary: “Universal Design for Learning in Today’s University: Inclusivity, Flexibility, Effectiveness”
The opening lecture will provide an overview of the UDL concept, highlighting its relevance in today’s university context. As student populations become increasingly diverse, academic teaching is called to evolve toward more accessible and adaptable practices. The session will introduce the key principles of UDL and explore their practical application in course design.
14:30 – 17:30 | Workshop: “Inclusive Design in University Classrooms. Thinking, Experimenting and Designing through UDL”
In the afternoon, participants will engage in a hands-on workshop where they will reflect on their own teaching materials and experiment with applying UDL principles. Guided activities will help explore inclusive strategies and design targeted interventions to better support diverse student needs. The workshop offers a space for sharing, collaboration, and innovation.
Guest Speaker: Prof. Rosa Sgambelluri
Associate Professor of Didactics and Special Pedagogy at the University of Salerno, Prof. Sgambelluri is a national expert in UDL. With extensive academic and institutional experience, she has received significant recognition for her contributions to inclusive education research.
The event will be held in person in the Blue Room, Executive Center, West Campus, Lugano, and represents a valuable opportunity for professional development for all academic members.
