New Guideline on Special Educational Needs
Equal Opportunities Service
10 February 2026
The new "Directive on inclusive education and the management of training courses and exams for students with recognized special educational needs has been in force since January 1, 2026.
In order to ensure a fair and inclusive service, in accordance with the provisions of Art. 2 of the Federal Act on the Elimination of Disadvantages for Persons with Disabilities (LDis), the Università della Svizzera italiana supports - during the academic path and during exams - students who have been duly certified special educational needs, and recommends teaching staff to apply where possible the guidelines of Universal Design for Instruction (UDI).
If students wish to submit a request, they are asked to follow the procedure outlined in the Guidelines and in the dedicated web page.
For the application of compensatory measures and UDI guidelines, teaching staff may:
- see the practical and support guide “Advice and best practices for inclusive and accessible university teaching” available online or downloadable;
- request individual consultations with an expert team from eLab team, which can be booked via the ticketing 4me platform (eLab Service → teaching consultation → teaching design → request for consultation on accessibility and inclusion in teaching);
- participate in the practical training workshop dedicated to the application of Universal Design for Instruction (UDI), organized on the following (alternative) dates:
- Wednesday, April 22, 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., in person – Room 253
- Tuesday, May 19, 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m., in person – Room 253
