In order to help current students and recent graduates to find their way in the working world, many of our alumni shared their career story. Here the story of Joël Bontempelli, Sr. Global Category Manager for Gategroup in Stockholm. USI Degree: Bachelor in Scienze economiche, 2011.

How did you start your career?

Started by an internship included into my master program.

Why did you choose a career in Gategroup?

It enabled me to get a people's management role.

What is your current role/duties?

My team and I are buying fashion, electronics and other categories, negotiating terms and conditions and presenting our assortments to airlines.

In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career in Gategroup?

Resilience, emotional intelligence, negotiating skills.

What positive aspects and qualities meant most to you during the study programme you attended?

Mathematical skills, business sense, intellectual discipline.

What competences and/or skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?

Acquiring emotional intelligence and getting a growth mindset, intellectual and work discipline and ways of thinking.

What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?

Find a mentor!
