Open Call

On occasion of the USI-Accademia di architettura di Mendrisio’s 25th anniversary, AMA - Accademia Mendrisio Alumni presents an exhibition featuring works from the over 2200 alumni which attended the Accademia during its formative years. Due to open on 21 October 2021 in Mendrisio and later at institutions around the world, Postcards from the Immediate Future will offer an instant panoramic of the rich and diversified practices of former Accademia students working within the fields of architecture, design, theory, photography, curation, and more.

The first ever attempt to provide a global overview of the cultural legacy of the School, the exhibition seeks to become a point of departure for many other future events, activities and publications towards topic like arts, cinema, environment, diversity, health, technology, economic and cities. It will also be an occasion to connect and reconnect with former peers, Alumni and present students and therefore to rekindle with the Accademia: an extended family and institution of which the Alumni are and will forever remain members. We hope you feel the same and are as keen as we are to contribute to this exciting initiative!

In order to showcase the largest and most diversified amount of works, exhibitors are asked to contribute with one single image. This image might represent a building recently completed, a piece of design, a photograph, a drawing, the title page of a book, an image of a model - whatever best represents the career trajectory, preoccupations and practice of the contributor. The images will be printed in postcard format and exhibited in a large-scale, purposely designed frame to form a kaleidoscopic array of ‘windows’ onto the lives and works of the alumni. A website will provide a digital platform for the content shown in the exhibition.

Organized in collaboration with USI - Università della Svizzera Italiana - Accademia di architettura di Mendrisio and in partnership with the Global Pact for the Environment, the exhibition is curated by Fabrizio Ballabio and Giacomo Ortalli.
