In order to help current students and recent graduates to find their way in the working world, many of our alumni shared their career story. Here the story of Giulia Virginia Gervasini, Sales & Marketing Coordinator at EF Education First in Lugano (CH). USI degree: Master in International Tourism, 2018.

How did you start your career?

I was looking for an internship and I ended up at EF Education First office in Lugano. While I was writing my thesis I held an internship position at EF HQ in Zurich and after the graduation I was offered a position in Lugano.

Why did you choose a career in EF Education First?

Mainly thanks to its culture and core values. Also, the products they offer are exciting and the chance of working in an international education company inspired me.

What is your current role/duties?

As a Sales & Marketing Coordinator, I give consultations about language programs abroad and I take care of the marketing activities: I prepare the marketing plan, the creation of online and offline ads, the translation of materials and Social Media management.

In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career in EF Education First?

The most important qualities are: being passionate, have communication and connection skills, being eager to learn and to go the extramile, a business oriented mindset and team spirit.

What positive aspects and qualities meant most to you during the study programme you attended?

The Master in International Tourism is a demanding and challenging interfaculty programme, that means that there are drastic changes of subjects and the issues are examined from different point of views.

What competences and/or skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?

The group projects helped my negotiation skills and the team spirit, I improved my intercultural communication skills thanks to its international environment, and, among many things, I acquired knowledge and experience on the latest Tourism technologies, theories and trends.

What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?

Be open to all opportunities, but try and find a company with which you share the basic values.
