In order to help current students and recent graduates to find their way in the working world, many of our alumni shared their career story. Here the story of Alessandro Carughi, Financial Inventory Analyst EMEA in Gucci in Milan (I). USI Degree: Master of Arts in Public Management and Policy, 2019.

How did you start your career?

While completing one of the three internships that I did during my Master's program (one per type of Organisation), I was contacted by Gucci through the USI Career Service.

Why did you choose a career in Gucci?

After starting my career in an international organization I wanted to work in the private sector to acquire different skills and expand my CV.

What is your current role/duties?

I do Financial Analysis on the Company's physical stock for the European and Middle East region. I try to find problems and offer solutions at logistic and operational level.

In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career in Gucci?

The important thing is to have a mix of computational and interpersonal skills. Respect, self-awareness, and willingness to learn are the key factors.

What positive aspects and qualities meant most to you during the study programme you attended?

What I think has been key for me is the desire to learn and the constant discussion with the professors. I tried to capitalize on every lesson and experience that I have had.

What competences and/or skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?

The PMP Master's program taught me to take an omni-comprehensive approach while facing any type of issue. It gave me the opportunity to train myself on how to present my ideas and how to interact with different levels of audience. Moreover, it gave me a solid theoretical basis on Economics and Communication.

What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?

I recommend you to be aware of your goal and not to be afraid to dare and make mistakes. A Career is built step by step, remember that you are not obliged to follow just one path to fulfill your dreams.
