In order to help current students and recent graduates to find their way in the working world, many of our alumni shared their career story. Here the story of Emanuele Mazziotta, Chief Operating Officer/General Director in Coccinelle between Milan and Parma. USI Degrees: Master in Management, 2008 and Bachelor in Economics, 2006.

How did you start your career?

Everything started thanks to Venture Ideas, a working/focus group organized with USI and Bally. Students were invited to spend 1 day at Bally to work on a focus group. I was selected to join Bally with an internship in the Communication department. Having studied management, I preferred a department more focused on figures, reports, and numbers. I moved to Merchandising department and finally to the Commercial team, developing the business within the Travel Retail channel. This is how my journey started!

Why did you choose a career at Coccinelle?

I moved to Coccinelle, an Italian affordable luxury brand, specialized in leather bags and accessories in 2014. My mission was to create the Travel Retail business unit and develop the channel. In 5 years I grew the business to 200 point of sales worldwide at airports, on cruise ships, diplomatic shops. It was extremely inspiring and motivating! I was then appointed as
Commercial Director and finally to the role of Chief Operating Officer/General Director.
Fashion is a very dynamic industry, flexible where adaptation to change is mandatory and an high level of passion and commitment is needed! This is why I love this industry.

What is your current role/duties?

Today as Chief Operating Officer/General Director I am responsible for the day-to-day strategy, administration and operation of the business, bringing operational, managerial and administrative procedures, reporting structures and operation controls to the company. Overseeing the Global Sales, Strategic Marketing & E-Commerce, Merchandising, Visual Merchandising, Buying and Legal teams. Overall supervisory responsibility for Creative Direction (Design and Communication), Operations (Product Development, Production, Logistics and Customer Service), Finance & Controlling, HR and Safety&Facility departments.

In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career at Coccinelle?

Flexibility and adaptation to change together with passion and commitment everyday!

What positive aspects and qualities meant most to you during the study programme you attended?

USI has been one of the most inspiring periods of my life. The high level of inter-nationality among students and professors has been an added value to my university experience.
At the same time the small size of the university has been a plus, I have had the chance to have direct contacts with professors during my studies, meeting them and exchange with them.

What competences and/or skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?

The direct contact with professors and the high numbers of workshops and presentation I had during my Master in General Management have given me the ability to work in teams, to have public speech. The high level of inter-nationality has also given me a very open mind approach to work.

What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?

I would say, having a good basis that USI is providing, PASSION can do. With passion and commitment everything can be made!
