In order to help current students and recent graduates to find their way in the working world, many of our alumni shared their career story. Here the story of Luca Savio, Global Head of Quality for Glovo in Barcellona (S). USI Degree: Master in International Tourism, 2008.

How did you start your career?

Post-graduation I worked for a local start up in event management. I then begun my corporate career in the travel industry, initially in an account management/operational role, then transitioning to Quality/Customer Experience. The USI Career Service helped me reach out to my first corporate employer.

Why did you choose a career at Glovo?

After many years in travel I have decided to try a new sector, hence last year I moved to the delivery sector. Despite the change of industry, I am continuing my career path developing Quality and CEX programs.

What is your current role/duties?

I lead Quality and Customer experience globally in one of key players in the delivery industry. I am responsible for defining and leading the strategy to improve our internal processes whilst providing top notch experience to our customers. I operate with a team of 16 people at different levels that support the execution across the 25 markets we currently support. I have also been tasked with the development and tracking of KPIs aimed at pushing towards operational excellence while reducing costs.

In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career at Glovo?

Teamwork, flexibility, organization, ownership.

What positive aspects and qualities meant most to you during the study programme you attended?

Practical approach: at USI I have been part of a number of activities that had me exposed to work directly with different businesses. I also value the international environment at USI that has been a real open-minder and triggered me to move across different countries throughout my career (Australia, Switzerland, England, Spain).

What competences and/or skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?

My programme was not only theoretical but it allowed me to understand how things would be in a business environment. Among the key skills acquired, the most valuable have been: working in teams, planning, strategizing, presenting results.

What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?

Start networking during your studies, use the tools USI puts at your disposal to enter the job market. If possible, ask for support from professors that teach topics you have deep interest in.
