To help current students and recent graduates navigate the world of work, several USI Alumni shared their career paths and career story. Here the story of Arnaud Delaloye, Head of Marketing in Vaudoise Assurances in Lausanne (CH). USI Degrees: Master in Corporate Communication, 2011 and Bachelor in Communication Sciences, 2009.

How did you start your career?

I started my career in 2011 in a communication agency in Geneva called Blossom Communication. I have spent two years working on several communication projects and learned the best practices of media relations for clients active in banking in finance. Following this, I joined Swiss International Air Lines where I spent 8 years in various marketing functions. This was a great place to grow and start gaining experience in leadership. Since 2021, I am the Head of Marketing at Vaudoise Insurances.

Why did you choose a career in Vaudoise Assurances?

Vaudoise Insurances is an important actor of the insurance sector in Switzerland, and one of the only with a headquarter in Western Switzerland. On top, it is regularly awarded as a top employer in the country, therefore leading their marketing team is a great opportunity.

What is your current role/duties?

I lead the marketing team that oversees the following areas: marketing strategy, product marketing and customer marketing.

In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career in Vaudoise Assurances?

I believe that, as in any other company, adopting a positive attitude is key. Then, as insurance is about people, you need to be customer centric. Finally, marketing roles generally require to be able to synthesize multiple information from different sources to support your organization in its activities.

What positive aspects and qualities meant most to you during the study programme you attended?

I enjoyed a lot the rather small size of the classes and the multiple group projects. You always feel involved and can build be solid friendships in the process. I also appreciated the variety of profiles during the master. Most students came with different academic backgrounds and from different regions in the world.

What competences and/or skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?

I believe that USI helps opening the mind of the students and teaches how to build an opinion and structure activities. No matter how much the world changes, for example in the field marketing and communication, we learned to analyze a situation properly and gather the necessary information and resources to move forward.

What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?

I would recommend them to choose an industry they are truly interested in and have already in mind where they want to be 10 years from now. It is important to have a plan and objectives to keep your career moving forward.
