In order to help current students and recent graduates to find their way in the working world, many of our alumni shared their career story. Here the story of Paola Galli, Strategic Communications Associate at Infront Sports & Media in Zug (CH). USI Degrees: Master in Corporate Communication, 2021 and Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences, 2018.

How did you start your career?

My career journey began in different companies: first in an international pharmaceutical company, then at a boutique marketing and events agency with a focus on motorsport, but working also with institutional clients on digital communications projects, gaining a well-rounded perspective on brand engagement. Seeking a truly global environment, I pursued my passion for sports and transformed it into a job by joining Infront Sports & Media AG, where I continue to navigate the dynamic world of sports marketing on an international scale.

Why did you choose a career at Infront Sports & Media?

I chose to join Infront because it offers a truly global platform where I can gain invaluable international exposure. Working in a company that operates at the intersection of sports, media, and marketing allows me to engage with diverse markets, cultures, and stakeholders worldwide. Additionally, being part of an international communications and PR team provides me with the opportunity to develop a multifaceted skill set ranging from digital communications and strategic storytelling to brand positioning, CSR communications, media monitoring as well as internal communications and employee engagement. The dynamic nature of the industry, combined with the collaborative environment at Infront, continuously challenges me to grow both professionally and personally.

What is your current role/duties?

My role at Infront is incredibly diverse, keeping me constantly engaged with new challenges and opportunities to learn. Managing the company’s digital channels, I oversee content marketing optimisation through SEO, social media advertising, website development, social media management, email marketing, campaign management and data analysis.
I work closely with the sponsorship sales team to develop lead generation and nurturing campaigns, while also contributing to digital programs focused on CRM optimisation. Additionally, I take on project management responsibilities, such as leading the ideation and implementation of the company’s employee advocacy program. Beyond my digital expertise, I serve as a communications business partner at the HQ level for Infront’s Italian branch, which means frequent travel and direct collaboration on communications initiatives. The dynamic nature of my role allows me to blend creativity, data-driven decisionmaking, and international exposure.

What positive aspects and qualities meant most to you during the study programme you attended?

After earning my Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences at USI, I chose to further my education with the Master of Science in Corporate Communication. This program stood out for its academic rigor and theoretical depth, providing me with a comprehensive understanding of all facets of communication, an essential foundation for any professional working at the intersection of communications and marketing.

What competences and skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?

My academic background has given me confidence in my abilities, as I believe that while hands-on experience is invaluable and develops through daily work, a strong theoretical framework allows for a strategic, bigpicture approach. This ability to combine practical execution with a solid conceptual understanding is a key asset when designing and implementing effective communication campaigns.

What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?

As you enter the job market, it’s important to strike a balance between flexibility and focus. While it's essential to have a clear vision of your longterm career goals, be open to opportunities and paths that might not always align with your initial plan. Every experience can offer valuable skills and insights that will contribute to your growth. Embrace each step along the way because they provide learning opportunities and help shape your professional identity.
