The mass media landscape has changed. Social platforms are at the heart of continuous, dramatic changes in the way news is generated and distributed. In this novel landscape, new players emerge forcing old players to reinvent their business models in order to stay relevant (e.g. native advertisement). Audiences, evermore accustomed to novel and increasingly disruptive forms of instantaneous communication (e.g. Snapchat, ChatApp, WeChat, etc.), demand yet further innovations in mass media.

This lecture will first analyze these changes and address the challenges generated, such as increased concentration of media power, decreased transparency, personal data protection concerns, problems related to the verification of user-generated news, ethical issues, regulation, etc. It will then offer thoughts on the relevance of this new environment to corporate communication.
