Bloomberg Terminal

Content: Bloomberg Terminal is a display service delivering data for viewing on a screen. USI subscribers can also get Bloomberg certifications from attending specific courses.

Available products: Bloomberg physical terminals and the possibility of obtaining 3 different certifications: Bloomberg Finance Fundamentals (BFF), Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC) and Environmental Social Governance (ESG).

Access conditions: USI users are eligible to access the Bloomberg terminals and the Desktop API. Authenticated subscribers can log into the Terminal via the installations deployed in the Bloomberg Lab located in room SI-008 - black building (please contact the Research Data Manager to gain access to these resources).

Business Source Premier

Content: Business Source Premier is an online research database that provides access to a wide range of business and management literature and documentation.

Available products: market research reports, country reports, company profiles and SWOT analysis, as well as full access to scientific journals in the fields of marketing, management, accounting, and finance.

Compustat

Content: Compustat is a financial, statistical, and market information database on active and inactive global companies throughout the world.

Available products: Compustat North America, Compustat Global, Executive Compensation (ExecuComp data), Compustat Snapshot, Compustat Bank.

Access conditions: this content can be accessed via the institutional subscription to WRDS. Faculty, students, and staff who require access must register for a WRDS account.

CRSP

Content: information on market and corporate securities, indexes, mutual funds, treasuries.

Available products: US Stock database, US Treasury database, Survivor-Bias-Free US Mutual Funds database.

Factiva

Content: Factiva provides access to a wide range of global news, business, and industry information from thousands of sources; including newspapers, newswires, journals, websites, and social media platforms.

Available products: content aggregations, search and retrieval, alerts and monitoring, company and industry data.

FactSet

Content: FactSet provides economic and financial data, including ESG, fixed income, commodities, futures, including company and industry analyses and real-time news.

Available products: USI subscribes to the FactSet Academic package, as well as Ownership, Debt Capital Structure and Equity Prices datafeeds. USI members can access to e-learning Essentials certifications: Core Products, Derivative Products, Portfolio Analysis, Productivity Suite and Universal Screening.

Access conditions: USI members are eligible to access to FactSet Academic Solution (the institutional email address must be used) and FactSet e-learning tools.
Bachelor and Master students have to sign up as "STUDENT", all faculty members may sign up as "PROFESSOR" and access the desktop app as well as FactSet add-ons in Microsoft environment. Faculty members have access to datafeeds and API solutions (please contact the Research Data Manager to gain access to these resources). Bachelor and Master students who plan to use FactSet data for their theses can upgrade their account for a limited timeframe (please contact the Research Data Manager).

Historical Businesses

Content: Historic Business from Data Axle (Infogroup) refers to a dataset that provides information about US historical business data from 1997 to 2023.

Available products: establishment-level data for more than 24 million businesses, including the business name, location, industry classification code, number of employees, and sales volume. Each establishment has a unique identifier to make year over year comparisons easier. Records have also been geocoded for use with GIS software.

ICPSR

Content: the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research is an international consortium maintaining a data archive dedicated to social and behavioral sciences.

Available products: specialized collections of data in education, aging, criminal justice, substance abuse, terrorism, and other fields. The complete collection of resources can be found here.

IMD World Competitiveness Online

Content: The IMD World Competitiveness Center publishes an annual World Competitiveness Report that assesses the competitiveness of nations based on a wide range of factors, including economic performance, government and business efficency, infrastructure, and innovation.

Available products: data, rankings and analysis provided in the World Competitiveness report.

Lipper Hedge Fund Database (TASS)

Content: Lipper Hedge Fund database is an important resource for who monitor the global hedge fund industry.

OECD iLibrary

Content: The OECD iLibrary is an online platform that provides access to a wide range of publications, statistics, and data from the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Available products: OECD statistics as well as reports, studies, policy papers, and books covering a wide array of topics (economics, trade, education, environment, health, and more).

Orbis

Content: Orbis is a global database of companies and financial information. It is widely used by businesses, financial institutions, and researchers to collect information about companies and to conduct financial analysis. It’s updated weekly.

Available products: companies' details about ownership, financial performance, key personnel, industry classification, financial statements, annual reports, and other financial data.

OptionMetrics (IvyDB US)

Content: the Ivy DB database (often referred to as OptionMetrics) is a comprehensive database of historical prices, implied volatility, and sensitivity information (greeks) for the entire US listed index and equity options markets.

PrivCo

Content: PrivCo stands for Private Company Financial Intelligence and it’s a financial data and business research platform specialized in providing information and analysis on privately held companies. It’s updated daily.

Available products: information about funding rounds, venture capital investments, and private equity deals involving private companies.

SDC Deals

Content: Securities Data Company (SDC) is an online historical financial transactions database by LSEG. It provides detailed financial transaction information available on new issues, mergers and acquisitions, bonds, syndicated loans, private equity, project finance, poison pills and many more.

Content: Statista is an online platform that provides access to a wide collection of statical data, research, and market intelligence.

Trade and Quote (TAQ)

Content: the NYSE Trade and Quote (TAQ) database offers tick-by-tick trade and quote data of all activity within the U.S. National Market System. TAQ provides transaction information at the intraday level (to the microsecond) covering over 10,000 stock issues listed on 16 major American exchanges, including the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), American Stock Exchange (AMEX), and Nasdaq.

Available products: monthly TAQ data 1993-2014, daily (millisecond) TAQ data 2003-2025.

WRDS

Content: Wharton Research Data Services (WRDS) provides an interface to financial and economic time-series data. WRDS data are compiled from independent sources that specialise in specific historical data.

Available products: the complete collection of subscriptions available to USI users can be found here (it requires authentication from an existing account).

Access conditions: USI faculty, students, and staff who require access must register a WRDS account (the institutional email address must be used and "University of Lugano" must be selected under the "Subscriber" field). Art Museum Image Gallery (AMIG)

Content: AMIG is a rich digital platform of art images and related multimedia brought together from the collections of distinguished museums around the world
