In order to help current students and recent graduates to find their way in the working world, many of our alumni shared their career story. Here the story of Guilherme Gaino Galindo, Senior Analyst for Accenture in Recife (Brazil). USI Degree: Master in Management and Informatics, 2018.

How did you start your career?

First of all, thank you for the opportunity to share my career story. Writing about a career in an University portal that will be seen by many students, has a level of responsibility.
That said, before graduating from USI in 2018, I had various jobs in IT field. My first internship was in 2002, while at high school, as a web developer. After that, I got a Scientific Initiation Grant in 2006, during my Bachelor. Then in 2009 I had an experience as entrepreneur. And finally in 2013 I entered in the consulting business, which I'm working to this day.

Why did you choose a career in Accenture?

To be honest, they chose me. A while after I arrived at my home country, an Accenture recruiter contacted me through LinkedIn. I believe their HR personnel keep looking on LinkedIn for specific profiles, such as skills, experience level, location, languages and etc. After the first contact, I had interviews with people responsible for my business area. The entire process took about a month.

What is your current role/duties?

I work as a consultant for SAP technologies inside Accenture. Generally speaking, our clients are big multinational companies, the ones that have the budget and the need for this kind of system. I design solutions, attend meetings with various teams, from functional to technical, write and review documentation, support junior analysts and I do some ABAP coding as well.

In your opinion, what are the qualities necessary for a successful career in Accenture?

Accenture is a giant company. I only know a part of their business that is the SAP consulting. In this area, besides the technical knowledge, it is really important to know how to communicate with other people and to explain your ideas. Team work is really important here. Being a good developer and deliver your tasks on time, is great. But this is not going to bring you far. Every week I have meetings with teams in different locations (sometimes, different countries). Understanding business processes, sharing your expertise and good communication, play an important role here.

What are USI’s positive features and qualities?

For me USI was a really important chapter. That was my longest period living and studying abroad. The professors are high qualified and the workload is well balanced. The international environment, with people from different cultures, is a nice feature. Also being in a small city helps on adaptation, especially for foreigners.

What competences and/or skills acquired in your USI Study Program have been useful/are useful to your professional career?

If I have to name a few courses, based on my daily life, without any priority order, would be: Information Security, ERP and ERP Lab, Project Management, Accounting, Strategy, Business Intelligence, Business Process Modeling, Writing Business Plans and Analytical Thinking.

What is your advice to USI students entering the job market?

You accomplished an important goal and is certainly ready for the job market. Do not compare yourself to others, because people have different backgrounds and skills, and certain things are out of our control. Try to do your best, and most important, take responsibility.
